8 Kitchen Design Trends for Summer 2022

8 Kitchen Design Trends for Summer 2022

  • By Maddie Relyea
  • June 14, 2022

Although the kitchen has undergone a major evolution over the years in terms of its design and functionality, it remains the heart of the home and at the top of homeowners’ remodeling wish lists. Get inspired to refresh your kitchen with some of these summer kitchen trends below!

1. Earthy Tones & Textures

Natural wood cabinets continue to be a popular choice for both kitchens and baths for the element of warmth they bring to a space. White oak wood flooring is another top kitchen summer trend, which can really brighten up a room that was previously decked in darker wood shades.

2. Quartz is King

Countertops are the most common splurge for kitchen renovations in 2022, followed closely by appliances. Quartz remains king for kitchen countertops as a more practical and durable alternative to marble while delivering a similar look and several color options.

3. Walk-In Pantries & Secondary Kitchens

Decades ago, the kitchen was hidden in the back of the house. It was a place where meals were prepared, and dirty dishes were washed. Fast forward to today and the kitchen has a much different role; it is the heart of the home and a space that brings everyone together at the start of the day or after a long day away.

Experts predict the prep kitchen is on its way to replacing the conventional pantry as homeowners desire extensive functionality in their kitchens without the clutter or mess. The addition of a prep kitchen allows for the openness and beauty in the main kitchen while providing extra workspaces and storage areas that are out of sight to house larger countertop appliances and coffeemakers.

When tight on space, another idea is to incorporate an ‘appliance garage’ into the cabinetry design to hide/store smaller appliances and reduce countertop clutter.

4. Out with All-White

All-white kitchens seem to have run their course as homeowners are seeking to spice up their everyday spaces. Stark white spaces, though clean and pristine, tend to feel cold and are more difficult to maintain. Trending earthy tones add a subtle warmth and pair nicely with natural wood cabinets and floors to create an overall cozy, inviting vibe that will make guests feel right at home!

5. Smart Technology & Appliances

Homeowners are seeking ways to ease and simplify life, and, as a result, are more willing to splurge on technologically advanced and integrated appliances that can save time and effort on daily tasks. We are so here for splurge-worthy modern kitchen designs that can make life easier and, in turn, allow more time for things that bring joy!

6. Curve Appeal

The curve appeal is real and a great way to add character to a home. We’re seeing these summer kitchen trends show up in rounded islands, arched windows and doorways, and other curved design elements that elicit an overall organic feel.

7. Bountiful Backsplashes

A top summer kitchen trend of the moment is using slab for the backsplash material and carrying it up to the ceiling for an aesthetic that is chic, sleek and seamless. If you prefer more contrast with your backsplash, glazed square/rectangle tiles with a slick finish and iridescent glow are taking kitchens (and bathrooms) by storm.

8. Seamless Storage Solutions

When it comes to storage space, the more the merrier. With the popularity of open spaces and natural light galore, sufficient storage space that is conveniently located can be harder to come by. Kitchen designers have an opportunity to get creative with modern kitchen design solutions like custom walk-in pantries and islands with built-in storage.
